Asia's Queer Halloween: Eight Different Nights
From costume contests and everyday disguises to anime songs and ballroom: eight distinctive Halloween nights in Tokyo, Osaka, Bangkok and Taipei.
Not every Halloween costume needs to be a ghost. In Tokyo, one party turns everyday clothes into comic characters, while in Osaka, guests take their handmade looks onto the midnight contest stage. In Bangkok, green ghosts and Gothic ballroom offer two very different invitations.
We picked eight events where what you wear—and what you come to enjoy—makes a real difference. Event cards carry the dates, venues and prices; this guide focuses on what sets each night apart.
When costumes become the show
Watching the costumes and joining the show are two different experiences. Here's how Osaka's contest compares with Bangkok's green-tinged ghost story.
Osaka · October 31
EXPLOSION Happy & Crazy Halloween Party 2026『天獄に昇るわよ』
EXPLOSION · Midnight costume contest
EXPLOSION calls this year's party ‘天獄に昇るわよ,’ a playful collision of heaven and hell. Its announcement mixes fortune-telling, bad luck and supernatural jokes with pop-culture references. The result is Halloween as outrageous stage comedy rather than just horror, with costumes making a statement before the show begins.
DJs SHINTARO, BOO and れんみ lead the music; ROBIN E.McQUEEN, Morie Herpangina, DaDa and Orten・sia perform drag, while TAIYO and TOMO dance gogo. The schedule runs from gogo at 23:15 and drag at 23:30 to the midnight costume contest, then another round of gogo at 02:00 and drag at 02:15. Contestants must register beforehand, and five winners receive prizes. Arrive early if you've put serious work into your look.
You can also just watch. Costumes of any kind are welcome but not mandatory, and dressed-up guests get a discount. Regular entry has one-drink and two-drink options. It's a MIX event open across genders, giving you a choice between taking the stage and enjoying the show.
Bangkok · October 31
BARBER Halloween Party: THE GREEN CURSE
BARBER · THE GREEN CURSE
BARBER's ‘THE GREEN CURSE’ poster shows a building struck by green lightning, alongside ghosts and an exploring party. It evokes a cartoon ghost adventure, with no claim of a licensed film collaboration. The imagery invites you to think about your outfit before the night even starts.
DJ MEX (@dumexxx) provides the music, while the venue encourages guests to show off their own “green look.” Green clothing isn't compulsory, and no costume contest is announced. The shared color matters more than a strict dress code; there's no major competition stage advertised.
Admission is THB 400 including two drinks. That's less than BEEF's pre-Halloween ticket, though the programs and drink arrangements aren't equivalent. BARBER's draw is a specific, playful green-world theme rather than an oversized lineup.
Deliberately low-key—or dressed in red and white
Two parties in Tokyo's Shinjuku Ni-chome don't demand an elaborate Halloween outfit. Yet their approaches to dressing down couldn't be more different.
Tokyo · October 31
地味ハロDEMOいいじゃナイト — JIMI-HALLOWEEN 2026
Jimi Halloween · Making the ordinary a costume
‘Jimi-haro’ is a Japanese Halloween game that recreates ordinary people and familiar everyday situations instead of famous characters or monsters. The joke lands when you explain the seemingly unremarkable scene you're dressed as. It's not simply arriving in your normal clothes; the point is choosing a deliberately mundane role.
ArcH in Shinjuku Ni-chome hosts ‘地味ハロDEMOいいじゃナイト,’ where you can show off that kind of look. Explain your costume at the entrance to receive a discount; elaborate costumes are also welcome.
Observation and small details take the place of expensive props. Six DJs and four drag queens perform, and guests without costumes can enjoy the party too.
Tokyo · October 31
RUSHCRUISE The 80th Edition -Duality-
RUSHCRUISE 80th · Duality
RUSHCRUISE marks its 80th edition with ‘Duality.’ The organizers describe choosing white or red as a way to discover another side of yourself. You can take part in the theme with just one color rather than a character costume. The color-based discount is optional, not an entry requirement.
A cross-city lineup gives the anniversary substance. Kyoto drag performer Francois Aldente opens with a showcase, joined by Sapporo's DJ MOSH, Osaka gogo dancers ICHI and SHINTAROH, and Toyama drag artist 肉襦袢ゲブ美. The former act 東京ロードショー (枝豆順子 and RIOTO) also returns for one night, pairing new performances with memories from the party's history.
DJs work the main and sub floors, with multiple gogo dancers and music spanning house and other genres. Ticket options include early sales, door entry, SNS/9monsters follower discounts, costume discounts and U25 rates. Reserved seating costs extra and does not include general admission, so check both charges before booking.
Halloween driven by music and dance
Some parties make music or dance culture the center of Halloween, with costumes playing a supporting role. Anime-song fandom and ballroom battles offer very different kinds of performance.
Tokyo · October 30
アキバナイト 51 23rd anniversary -HALLOWEEN NIGHT-
アキバナイト 51 · HALLOWEEN NIGHT
Rather than treating anime songs as background music for costumes, Akiba Night has built a party around them for 23 years in Shinjuku Ni-chome. The 51st edition features a 45-minute set of tracks from ghost, witch, zombie and horror-themed anime. Recognizing the music—and sharing that recognition—is the point.
The program includes a live performance by 原田千栄, a special appearance by newcomer 仲万美, and drag performer CECIL・K・Carlotta from Osaka. Drag queens, gogo dancers of different genders, and a long roster of DJs and VJs also appear. A sub floor explores Vocaloid, tokusatsu and VTubers, while the Red Room offers massage and gay-comics booths.
Cosplay is encouraged but everyday clothes are fine. It's a MIX event for adults aged 20 and over, with proof of age required for the U23 discount. Don't expect one musical style all night: there's plenty to explore across the rooms.
Bangkok · October 31
GOTH HALLOQUEEN
GOTH HALLOQUEEN · Ballroom and club
GOTH HALLOQUEEN brings Gothic Halloween imagery into Bangkok's ballroom scene. A ballroom battle, where competitors perform and the crowd responds, isn't simply a drag show viewed from a distance. The event combines a Gothic ballroom battle with a separate club room, letting guests follow the competition or head for the dance floor.
The venue is FV39 on Sukhumvit 39. A costume competition is also part of the program, but attendance doesn't require taking part. The costume contest and ballroom battle are distinct formats and shouldn't be treated as the same competition.
A monster pre-party and the final nightmare
Halloween doesn't have to start on October 31. Consider a bear-club pre-party two days earlier—or the final installment of a longstanding Taipei series.
Bangkok · October 29
BEEF: MEAT ME IN HELL — Pre-Halloween Party
BEEF · MEAT ME IN HELL
On the ninth floor of Silom Edge, BEEF gives its bear dance-club identity a monster makeover. ‘MEAT ME IN HELL’ plays on “meat” and “meet,” while the announced ‘PARTY MONSTERS’ theme kicks off Halloween on Thursday, ahead of the Saturday rush.
Hosts Alie (@alie.blackcobra) and Mixy (@badmixy) are joined by DJs ISSYPEOPLE (@issypeople888) and SOSHINE (@djsoshine). BEEF emphasizes its two hosts and two DJs, whereas BARBER leads with one DJ and its green-ghost aesthetic.
The party runs from 21:00 on October 29 until 03:00 the next morning. Online tickets cost THB 800 with three drink vouchers; admission at the door is higher. The monster theme doesn't automatically imply compulsory costumes. It's an option for visitors who can begin celebrating before the main weekend.
Taipei · October 31
RESURRECTED HALLOWEEN XVII: THE FINAL NIGHTMARE
RESURRECTED XVII · THE FINAL NIGHTMARE
The 17th RESURRECTED HALLOWEEN calls 2026 ‘THE FINAL NIGHTMARE.’ The organizers recall its beginnings at an Indian restaurant decorated with dinosaurs, followed by years around Ximen's Red House and Tiger Mountain. They even frame the last night as a funeral. For people who've always assumed they could come next year, the message is clear: this is the finale.
At 微遠虎山 in Taipei, four spaces host The Queens Stage, The Temple of Boom, The Jungle and The MicroRave Secret Stage. The idea isn't merely four stages in one venue: according to the organizers, walking roughly 30 meters takes you into another world. Around 30 performing acts are expected across the four stages.
The costume contest offers a total prize pool of NT$20,000, and the organizers encourage ambitious outfits. KKTIX tickets include early-bird and phased releases plus four-person packages, which must be refunded as a complete set of four. The series' farewell and the chance to move between distinct stages are what set this apart from a smaller bar party.

Before you go
Some nights reward elaborate costumes; others are about listening to the music you love without dressing up at all. Osaka's midnight contest, Tokyo's everyday-character costumes and anime songs, Bangkok's ballroom and monsters, and Taipei's final edition each offer a different kind of memory.
X-Formosa WHITE EDEN in Taipei also happens that night, but it's a Pride circuit party rather than a Halloween event. See GWAY's Taipei Pride guide for more.
